TaeKwonDo Resources

My son is active in TaeKwonDo.  He is 6 years old and received his green stripe belt in December 2005.  We have moved to a new dojang that is much more formal and structured and he is thriving, though we will be moving to a new belt color system that includes orange, purple and brown where the stripes were at the old dojang.

We wanted to help him practice at home but were stumped about how to go about it without writing down all of the steps by ourselves.  So I found some resources on the web, including the forms in a step-by-step format, videos of the forms and printouts of each form with little characters to show how each step should look.

I hope you find these resources as helpful as I did!

Rules

  1. Always listen to your parents, teachers, instructors, and master.

  2. Never kick or punch outside of the dojang.  (The exception to this rule:  You may practice your form at home but do not kick the chair, bed, cat, cow, toilet, brother, sister, dad, closet door... you get the idea.)

  3. Always tell the truth (or "never lie").

  4. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

  5. Learn to tie your belt properly and by yourself.

Tenets

Courtesy - Be polite to other people and think of others first.

Integrity - Always be honest.

Perseverance - Never give up.

Self Control - Control your body and emotions.

Indomitable Spirit - Have the courage to do what's right.

These links take you to a page for each of the 8 Forms.  On each page, there is a link at the top with a video of a TKD Black Belt doing the Form, a step-by-step explanation of each move, and a link to Diagram of the moves at the bottom.

Step-by-Step Forms

Brad's T.K.D. Zone - Click on "Links to TaeKwonDo Forms (Poomsie)" to get to the list of all of the forms.  Each link on that page takes you to a very nicely formatted table of all the moves for that Form.  I copy and paste just the Form wording into Word before printing.

Terminology

Because the students learn a number of Korean words, I found a few excellent lists of Korean terminology for TaeKwonDo.  They include numbers, colors, commands, sparring terminology, dojang items, and much more.
